Are we a pussy nation now?

I happen to live in an area where people can't change their own oil and they call Terminix if they see a spider in their closet. I babysat for a family like this, and I'm not exaggerating that when I told the mom of that family "you live near the Potomac River, there's a forest, you will encounter spiders and insects", she told me, not if Terminix can help it. She has two sons who are on their way to being giant pussies, IMHO. She doesn't let them play outside because she's afraid they'll get ticks.

Gun ownership is not really an issue here. People have no sense of foreign threats. Is that true for the rest of the country though? I'm not saying that middle Nascar America is necessarily tougher, but on average, do you think we're on the pussy end of the bravery scale?

What's happening in Iran, or about to take place, I should say, is what informs this question. The protesters in Iran, are assholes in pink shirts like this guy http://www.iranian.com/main/image/68462 and they do not stand a chance when the SL and Ahmadinejad unleash the stern and serious men (real men) who I saw at the Friday prayer. Say what you will about these religious men, but they are not pussies. They are the ones who saved lazy bums like that guy in the picture from being gobbled up by Iraqis.

I guess what I mean is, we don't really have an icon of a tough, real man anymore in America, or do we? A hero figure. In the middle east, especially IRAN, they have the benefit of being close to religious history - Jerusalem, Karbala, Mecca, etc... I think A country like America is too disconnected to have a religious hero to really have religious movements that matter. But what about a nationalistic hero? A unifier against foreign threats? A John Wayne with military experience?

John McCain obviously didn't have this and Obama didn't need it, but in 2012, I think the guy or gal who can be such a figure will have a good chance of winning.

YOU ARE. But what about everyone else? The number of people enlisting in the military is at its lowest ever. Even if there was a draft, I have a feeling the percentage of pussies to tough guys is flop sided.

Well I believe in the forefathers, and not so much the military. The forefathers stated that we should be armed to not only protect ourselves from tyranny abroad - but on our own soil. There are threats abounding from all angles, in my opinion.

Anyways, I value life...but not so much my own. I've always wanted to die in a blazing sort of glory taking out my enemies. If anything, I consider it an opportunity to give purpose to my life. Defending my home, showing some fucks we won't be fucked with..all that jazz. I'm really not a "balls to the wall" guy...I'm just impulsive and generally unhappy with mediocrity. I say bring it. I've been an armchair warrior for too long. I'd like a chance to show my arsenal off, first hand...or, index finger...heh.

Oh I believe you. In college, I stayed in a friend's dorm overnight because we had a debate club thing the next morning and hotel was not an option. Anyway, the night before, there was some protest going on for something or other, and the people brought boomboxes and they were being way too loud. Just to get them away from our window (we were on the 3rd floor), we took a gallon of water and poured it on the people below. I'm not exaggerating about this, but a riot broke out and for a week, the University was debating on the pages of the editorial about the whole thing, not knowing what had really set it off was two nerds who wanted sleep. If we had had a super soaker, there would have been blood. I'm not kidding.

It would be pretty hard. What you see isn't really what you get with America. Even if you put our entire military on stasis you never know what kind of tricks the security and technology subculture might have ready to go. The town I live in has at least several miles of cold war era tunnels that connect to a currently operational military base. There's so much room they could be storing Mothra's entire extended family down there. But the only people who know about it are nosey kids.
