EVP's
« on: September 03, 2010, 04:04:07 PM »
Hi everybody, I'm new here.  Been reading all the posts for awhile..... I love this site.  You guys are so funny and interesting.

Anyway, earlier I read on here somewhere that M.V. likes EVP's, and I do too, but can't find a good site.  It's hit or miss on google.   M.V., do you know where there's a good site or two with lots of cool EVP's?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

I was laughing while I was reading the Nooryisms.  He's such a knob.  It's so sad that he's completely ruined what was an awesome show.  I listened to Art Bell from the beginning.  Later......Robin

hi, robin.  pleasure to have you around, and hopefully you'll post often.

actually, no particular EVP site comes to mind.  i used to check out the material from the GIS at GhostPix.com, but a few years ago they redesigned their website and it seemed as though most of the really good content had been removed.  i have no idea why they did that.  their website went from simple with lots of content, to flashy with little content.

i guess i enjoy this show, but i'm always annoyed by how seriously these guys take themselves.  they conduct things in an authoritarian manner that i think would not be particularly fun to be a part of.  who was the guy on their show that everybody was always dumping on... wasn't his name brian harnois or something?  he's not on the show anymore, to my knowledge... probably because he had too much personality and the other idiots on the show were jealous of the attention he was getting.  they just seem very political.

You guys are so much more brave than I will ever be...ever.  Anything to do with EVP creeps me out to no end.  If I hear something that even remotely sounds like words it sends chills down my spine.

like i said ... a bunch of tools.  they try to make everything seem very scientific but really all they're doing is spending a lot of money on cameras, records, and all sorts of gadgets.

i was joking with a friend that we (my friend and i) should make a show about hunting ghost farts. but then South Park went and stole my idea.  damn it

Hi, thanks for the feedback.  I remember years ago it was easier to find EVP's on the internet.  Now there's so much garbage to sift through.  I'll check out the sites mentioned and let you know of any good EVP's.

EVP's are so creepy.  Even though they are probably not real (but who knows, some may be real), I have fun listening to them.  It's just weird and interesting to me.

I agree about the Ghost Hunter guys.  I liked that show at first, but now I hate it and never watch it anymore.  They're kind of nerdy or something.  Not that there's anything wrong with that!

my favorite c2c shows are with brendan and barbara from the GIS.  i'd love to go on a ghost hunt with them.

Spiricom Robot Voice thingy ... wow.  that's wonderfully ridiculous.  so is that like a CCrane radio that's been modified to run on SOMEONE'S SOUL?

Oh yeah. The guy was believed to have been mentally unstable and had the ability to be a Ventriloquist. Stephen Rorke has been on Coast a couple times debunking the whole thing. I've attached most of the interview that Art and him did last year. Rorke was also on with Noory a few years ago which was a more extensive interview.

Has anyone ever gotten an EVP before? I've made a few attempts at it including the abandoned insane asylum I posted pictures of in the past, but I've never gotten one before. I'm not saying it's not possible but at the moment I'm on the fence about this.

i'd be interested to see if anyone has done a test where ghost hunters listen to a batch of tapes from 'haunted area' and another group from a 'non-haunted area' and see if there's a statistically higher incidence of reporting EVP's in the 'haunted' batch.  of course the study would blind - they wouldn't know which batch they were listening too.  some EVP's are really a stretch to say that they sound like anything.  it could be an anomaly with the recording equipment, incidental noise, and mouse flatulence.  i believe in the possibility that ghosts/spirits exist but i'm not at all convinced that EVP's are evidence of anything.  in most cases.

If these were real, they would intrude upon every professional sound engineering session and every amateur cassette tape dubbing.

i got a doozie the first time i went evp hunting.  i was at a cemetery where several of my family members (on the vandeven side) are buried, including my great grandparents and their parents.  i was filming with a digital camcorder (Digital 8 because i wanted digital audio, and i had no other digital audio recorders.  when you watch the video, here's what happens:

i'm standing over the grave of my great great grandparents.  i'm saying nothing.  about 150-200 feet to my left, my sister and a friend are standing over some other graves.  the frame pans to the left, i begin to walk away from the grave, and a VERY clear voice pops in and asks, "goin' home?"  it was a classic example.  i've posted it somewhere on this site, but i have no clue where.  maybe i'll post it again here if i can remember to do so.

another was in the same cemetery.  my friend and i are standing over the grave of an 18 year old war veteran who, according to the headstone, served in vietnam.  my friend and i talk about it for a moment, pause, and then begin walking away.  just as we start to walk, a very very clear voice simply says, "hi."  those are my two best.  i've captured a few others, but these two always come back to me.  i've also captured a few video anomalies including orbs (i'm not very impressed by orbs) and a manifesting shape over a headstone.

i don't know of any experiment meeting those criteria, but i do know of an experiment where a totally sound proof room was constructed in the middle of the desert with microphones placed inside.  voices were captured.  very odd.

i've attached it to this post.  the audio is looped, but otherwise, it hasn't been processed or modified in any way.

not at all.  i highly encourage everyone to try this yourselves.  you have nothing to lose, and lots to gain.  if anything, this has given me a lot of comfort, because for my whole life i have battled with the question of whether or not there is anything after death.  these experiences have given me answers which otherwise are unobtainable.

MV, that EVP you did in the cemetery was cool.  I always wondered what was up with EVP's.  I figured most, if not all, are fake.  But after hearing yours, I believe a little more now because after reading this site for the past few weeks, I've gotten the feeling you're a normal kind of guy who is believable.  Now I want to try it.
The ghostpix.com site you told me about has a lot of good EVP's, in case anybody is interested.

i haven't done any serious EVP work in a few years, but at the time, i didn't have particularly good equipment.  for instance, in the above attached EVP, you can hear motor noise in my camcorder.  that's quite unfortunate.  a few months back, i ordered the following audio recorder to record college lectures:

it's the Zoom H2.  it's totally digital and has no moving parts which would generate noise in your recording.  you can record ultra low resolution mp3 audio all the way up to uncompressed WAV audio.  it has a 4-way quad directional microphone which exhibits surprisingly good channel separation.  if any of you are interested in doing some evp recording, this is THE ABSOLUTE BEST DEVICE you could possibly use.  i got mine for about $130.

Good point.  If EVP's are so common, how come they only show up when someone is TRYING to get one.  For example, why aren't the thousands of hours of recorded C2C shows riddled with ghost voices?  Why aren't books on tape riddled with ghosts?  What about live radio broadcasts?  What about phone conversations?  I don't disbelieve in it, but the skeptic in me wants to know.

i think it does happen and we just aren't apprised of every instance.  furthermore, i think when it does happen in recording sessions or other environments, the people involved aren't aware of what's happened, so they attribute it to something else.

there was an episode of MonsterQuest (go figure) about ghosts and they spent some time on EVP's.  they had a guy run some EVP's through some software that was designed to recognize speech patterns and even after they peeled away all the ambient noise the software never recognized any speech.  which doesn't prove anything - the software could be crap, equipment malfunctions, etc. etc. but it raises an interesting question: do EVP's happen in the environment?  or are they happening in people's minds?  a symptom of some process that's happening in the mind.

i think there are legitimate EVP's but these are only a small, small percentage of 'reported' EVP's
